Tottenham have made progress in talks over the loan of Luka Vuskovic to Hamburg, with the expectation being that a season-long deal with no options will be finalised before Monday’s deadline.

The London club are also looking to move Yves Bissouma to Galatasaray. The 28-year-old, who is out of contract next summer, has dropped to the bottom of the central midfield pecking order, having frustrated Thomas Frank with his timekeeping.

Man arrested on suspicion of murder of 84-year-old in County Down

Suspect detained after Sean Small, who had recently served prison sentence for sex offences, found dead in Newcastle

Police in Northern Ireland have arrested a man on suspicion of the murder of Sean Small, an 84-year-old who had recently served a prison sentence for sex offences.

The suspect, in his 40s, was detained on Tuesday two days after Small’s body was discovered outside his home on Slievenabrock Avenue in Newcastle, County Down.

A peaceful Victoria town has been rocked by the fatal shootings of two police officers, leaving locals shuttered indoors and police scouring bushland for the suspect

It would have been idyllic were it not for the sound of a police helicopter reverberating over the valley.

By late afternoon on Wednesday the rain had slowed to a drizzle in Porepunkah. Mist curled around the foothills of Mt Buffalo. Cows and sheep grazed under a grey sky, unperturbed by the massive manhunt around them.
