Ladbrokes owner’s ex-CEO and others face charges including bribery and fraud

UK charges against former directors of Entain and five others relate mainly to provision of services in Turkey

Former directors of Entain, the gambling company that owns Ladbrokes and Coral, are among 11 people who have been charged with offences including bribery, fraud, cheating the public revenue, tax evasion and perverting the course of justice.

The Crown Prosecution Service said on Thursday that it had authorised the prosecution of 11 individuals for seven alleged offences in relation to the provision of gambling services in Turkey between 2011 and 2018.

Latest Drax inquiry will raise fresh questions about its billions in subsidies

FCA will look at allegation the biomass power station misled investors, and Whitehall, about its wood sourcing

The financial watchdog’s decision to investigate the sustainability claims made by the owners of the Drax power plant came as little surprise to Britain’s energy industry. For years the former coal generator has faced a torrent of criticism for collecting billions of pounds in renewable energy subsidies in exchange for burning wood pellets – shipped thousands of miles from North America – at its vast power station in North Yorkshire.

Drax faces allegations that it may have misled investors and the government over the sustainability of its wood sources. In its investigation, the Financial Conduct Authority will in effect follow in the footsteps of the industry regulator, Ofgem, as well as the National Audit Office and the public accounts committee in scrutinising whether the company’s green claims stack up.

“She couldn’t get a scratch from me because I didn’t touch her,” Cardi said on the stand in her second day of testimony in a Los Angeles county court.

Four-time Tour de France champion Chris Froome is in a stable condition after he was airlifted to hospital in Toulon following a crash which left him with multiple injuries.

Suspect, 59, from Lancashire bailed as police say more arrests expected over ‘appalling’ online abuse during Euros

A man has been arrested in Lancashire after racist and abusive messages were sent online to the England defender Jess Carter during the women’s Euros in July.

The UK football policing unit launched an investigation after receiving a report that the messages had been sent on social media. Officers worked in partnership with social media companies to identify the people responsible.
